New Draft Explosives Act
This is potentially the worst disaster for Pyrotechnics in South Africa since the total banning of Fireworks in 1976.
The Police have asked a limited number of individuals for comments - Note the document is identified as chapter 15. Where is the rest of it?
At a recent meeting attended by a number of Pyrotechnicians a motion to scuttle this draft was defeated by a vote of a mere seven to six. Four of the Pyrotechnicians in favor of the draft reasoned that as they were fearful of the Police, it was better not to upset them for fear of reprisal action.
There appears to be no logic behind the introduction of further restrictions into Fireworks except to further hinder the publics right to practice their religion and culture in an unfettered manner.
Every new law that restricts our rights is an erosion of our freedom.
South Africans are tired of having their rights censored by officials.
Many consider South Africa to be a "Lawless" country and that this situation can be remedied by introducing more laws. Existing laws are simply ignored and new laws introduced at the drop of a hat.
Some believe that crime prevention means restricting every one by removing all their rights, "In case these rights are used to commit crime".
South Africa is one of the last countries where people have true freedom. This freedom ought to be vigorously protected as our most valuable asset.
